EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE: SUPPORT FOR PARENTS IN TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS

Positive parenting seminars and group programs are being enthusiastically received by parents in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, as part of efforts to build emotional resilience and help children avoid substance abuse problems when they get older.

Organized in cooperation with international child and human rights consultancy, Hümanist-Büro, the Triple P – Positive Parenting programs are being run as part of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Prime Minister’s anti-drug commission, under the Ministry of Education and Culture, in the Kyrenia Municipality.

The Triple P program has been implemented by the anti-drug commission as part of their long-term efforts to be more supportive to parents, by offering an evidence-based program that's been successfully implemented around the world.

130 parents attended the first seminar in the series delivered by Dr. Taner Guvenir in early March, and places are filling fast for the next seminar to be held on April 8.

“We need to work with parents as well, as only working with children is not enough to prevent these problems in the long-term,” said Dr. Guvenir, a  psychiatrist working with children and families in Izmir.

Group Triple P is also being delivered in the region by trained psychologist İpek Uçkan.
